At the 9th STEM Day Extravaganza at Morgan State on September 10, 2022, Xiaowen Li (MSU), Richard Damoah (MSU), Dominique Footes (SURA), and Halley Thompson (MSU) represented GESTAR II and MSU's Climate Science Division. They spoke with attendees, shared word search games, practiced drone techniques, and discussed the atmosphere and climate. Dr. Damoah brought two drones and had a sensor installed on the bigger drone. This instrument took live readings at the event, giving concentrations of SO2, NO2, O3, and aerosol particle number concentrations (PM1 and PM10). He and Dr. Li took turns explaining the readings to the kids and demonstrated flying the smaller drone. Thanks to Ms. Footes and Dr. Li for these photos!
Dr. Li demonstrates flying the drone with the readings displayed on the monitor.
Dr. Damoah speaks with attendees about the drones and the readings, while kids at the other table talk with Ms. Footes and M. Thompson and work on science-related word search games.
Dr. Li and attendees having fun with drones and science (and very cool balloons)!
