Environmental Brigades Panama is an exciting opportunity to join the world's largest student led sustainable development organization. Our mission is to empower students to promote sustainable solutions for rural communities in Eastern Panama in order to reduce environmental damage, reverse degradation and preserve the natural environment. The Environmental Brigade program works to achieve these goals with a large scale reforestation project in two indigenous communities that we currently work in, Embera Puru and Piriati Embera. With your help, we hope to introduce a new methodology of permaculture style planting, instead of the traditionally destructive slash and burn methods that the communities are accustomed to in Eastern Panama. The success of Environmental Brigades Panama is entirely dependent on volunteer contributions and participation. Throughout your brigade, you will learn far more than you will teach. You will develop a deeper understanding of the environmental challenges in under-resourced rural communities and get a taste of the complexities of sustainable development. Environmental degradation is a global issue that won't be solved overnight, but we ask that you join a brigade and see how one week in a rural Panama can make a difference for these communities and their future generations.
