Toastmasters Provides Preparation for Presentations
A Toastmasters Public Speaking DEMO with tips for the GRC
Wednesday, February 13, 2013 · 1 - 2:30 PM
On Campus : Tent. Commons 328
Are you interested in having a Toastmasters "public speaking practice" club on campus? Several graduate students have asked for us to investigate this option. This is also a nice option for postdoctoral scholars, faculty, and staff.
This meeting on 2/13 will provide demonstrations, and will serve as a meeting to gauge interest. If you can attend, please login to MyUMBC and click "I can attend." If you cannot attend, but are interested, please let us know via the comment section below. Whether you are attending, or just interested, please click the "paw" in the top left corner if you support the idea of having a Toastmasters group at UMBC.
We will need the commitment of 20 people to apply for an official chapter. Having a chapter on campus can provide you with a valuable resource. It is a great way for you to practice your presentations, practice proposal and defense talks, overcome shyness, and practice speaking in English if it is not your first language.
Dr. Judith Kadarusman Pollack, Assistant Director of our PROF-it Professors-in-Training program, and facilitator for workshops with postdocs, will lead a DEMO seminar for Toastmasters on Weds. Feb. 13, 1:00 - 2:30 PM. Dr. Pollack was one of the leaders for the Genesis Toastmasters group, and is certified to lead the demonstration. Read more about Dr. Pollack at Stand Up and Speak Well.
