Teaching & Learning Workshop (Formerly called "TA Training")
For graduate students who want to be prepared to teach

The Graduate School is sponsoring a series of workshops as part of orientation for new Teaching Assistants. All are invited to
attend the "Teaching and Learning Workshop" on Friday, August 27, 8:30 AM
- 2:00 PM. This workshop was formerly known as "TA Training".
This workshop is highly encouraged for all *NEW* TAs. All graduate
students who are interested in seminars on teaching and learning are
invited to attend. All graduate students are invited for lunch and for
Dr. Deluty's afternoon Success Seminar.
FEATURES:
* Introduction to PROF-it (Professors-in-Training), "Introduction to an
Honors University (IHU)/First Year Experience" courses, and other teaching
opportunities.
These opportunities include paid teaching positions at UMBC and at the
Community College of Baltimore County. Students must attend a series of
training seminars (including the 8/27 Teaching and Learning Workshop)
prior to being nominated for a $2000 PROF-it teaching position.
* Workshop on teaching and learning. Speaker: UMBC's new director of the
Faculty Development Center, Dr. Linda Hodges. Dr. Hodges joins UMBC after
a distinguished career at Princeton University.
* Information on conflict resolution, cross-cultural communication, and
services for students with disabilities
* Peer discussions by experienced TAs
SPECIAL afternoon seminar on "Life/Work Balance". Speaker: Dr. Robert
Deluty, Associate Dean of the Graduate School, Professor of Psychology.
Breakfast and lunch will be served.
