Applications are open for the third annual Discover Symposium and Salk Edge program at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies!
1) The Discover Symposium is open to current PhD students who are 1-2 years from beginning their postdoctoral position and invites candidates to an exclusive, immersive experience designed to ignite collaboration and accelerate careers. The dates for the symposium are July 15-17, 2026.The Salk Institute, located in San Diego, California, is one of the top five research centers in the world and has been home to six Nobel Laureates.
The selected candidates will visit Salk and be provided with opportunities to:
- Present their novel research in a symposium setting and interact with other trainees and colleagues who are at the forefront of their respective fields.
- Engage with and meet Salk faculty one-on-one and facilitate mentor-mentee pairing opportunities.
- Learn about the Institute, expose them to the ongoing developments at Salk, and inform them of upcoming recruitment opportunities.
2) Salk Edge is open to earlier career PhD students (years 2-4) who are looking to enhance their training. This two-week, technique-intensive summer initiative is designed to equip PhD students with advanced research skills and professional development tools for successful careers in science.LEARN MORE AND APPLY Application deadline: March 1
This program focuses on training students in cutting-edge laboratory techniques, while also offering workshops on soft skills, including grant writing, networking, and scientific communication. Participants engage directly with Salk faculty and labs, helping build valuable future postdoctoral connections. The dates for the program are August 17-28, 2026.
