LGBTQ FSA and DoIE: UMBC Talk
The Division of Institutional Equity (DoIE) has requested a meeting with the LGBTQ FSA to discuss the institution's draft framework for Inclusive Excellence. Please read more details below!
This will be IN PERSON ONLY, location is to be determined. Please RSVP if you intend to go and we will identify a location and add it here.
There are other opportunities to engage with DoIE on Inclusive Excellence Language but this is the sole opportunity directly with the LGBTQ FSA exclusively.
The framework has been prepared by members of the Division of Institutional Equity team, building on initial ideas shared by members of our campus community in a series of conversations called UMBC Talks in 2024 - 2025. As you know, inclusive excellence has long been a cultural touchstone at UMBC. The aim of the framework is to articulate our community's shared commitments in a way that can communicate our values, guide action, inspire new collaboration, and support the development and implementation of UMBC's next strategic plan.
What will be distinctive about the UMBC Talks conversation we would like to facilitate with the LGBTQ+ Faculty and Staff Association is that its format will align with the inclusive values and aspirations articulated in the draft framework. Your members will experience and engage in personal storytelling and individual and group reflection. We will have the opportunity to reflect on how well the draft statement reflects the insights that emerge from your stories and reflections, and to provide detailed feedback and ideas based on those insights. This process will take about 90 minutes, though we would have scheduled a 2 hour block to ensure thoughtful engagement.
