Dear Colleagues,
The Executive Committee of the LGBTQ FSA has been made aware of social media content posted by members of our UMBC community that was disparaging towards members of our Muslim and LGBTQ communities. As an organization and as individuals, we are committed to support members of our LGBTQ community, and will stand with them---students, staff and faculty alike.
We want to acknowledge and amplify the work being done by our colleagues around this issue. The Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion & Belonging (i3b) has posted a statement with links to a range of helpful resources. The Office of Equity and Inclusion has posted a statement with links to University policies on discrimination, including links to file complaints. We encourage those who have experienced discrimination or harassment to use the links and report incidents to the Office of Equity and Inclusion. The office has a well trained staff able to handle complaints in a confidential manner and capable of ensuring compliance with all UMBC commitments to equity and inclusion.
In solidarity,
Vicki Sipe, President of the LGBTQ FSA
Elle Trusz, Staff Co-Chair
Tim Phin, Faculty Co-Chair
