Saman Nazami receives Outstanding Senator Award from GSA
The Graduate Student Association has established the Outstanding GSA Senator Award to honor an outstanding Senator who contributes in a meaningful way to the welfare and improvement of the graduate student body through service to GSA and the Graduate Senate. Senators are responsible for communicating with their constituents and advocating for the rights of their fellow students. This award honors a senator who consistently speaks up, advocates strongly, and who listens to others.
Saman joined UMBC as a Mechanical Engineering PhD student in fall 2014. He is working on Energy Harvesting and Design Optimization field under Dr. Soobum Lee’s supervision as a PhD candidate.
In 2015, he started his first involvement with GSA (Graduate Student Association) as a member of the professional development committee. Later he joined the GSA senate as a senator for two GSOs (Graduate Student Organization).
In 2016, he took leadership of and helped to reactivate IGSA (Iranian Graduate Student Association). He acted as the president of this association until 2018. In 2017, he was elected as the vice president of MEGSA (Mechanical Engineering Graduate Student Association) and represents this GSO in the GSA senate.
Besides these, he has been serving as a member of the grant review panel of GSA since 2018.
