Research and Publication Panel: STEM Faculty Perspective
Demystify the publishing process
Thursday, October 12, 2023 · 12 - 1 PM
Publishing is an indispensable requirement in academia. Many graduate programs encourage their students to publish to obtain an advanced degree, but it is usually at the discretion of the research advisors to guide students through this process.
How do you start the process of writing a publication? What are impact factors and how do you decide if your data is impactful enough to be submitted to a particular publication or journal? How do you get your publication fee covered?
To help students through the publishing conundrum, we invited a STEM faculty panel at UMBC from our COEIT and CNMS colleges to discuss publication-related topics. This event intends to demystify the publishing process, and learn how to overcome perfectionism, time management skills, what is writer's block, and more.
Faculty Panelists:
- Dr. Aaron Smith, Chemistry and Biochemistry Department
- Dr. Erin Green, Biological Sciences
This event is co-hosted by the AOK Library and the Office of Graduate Student and Postdoc Development (GSPD) at UMBC.
