UMBC Symphony Orchestra
The UMBC Symphony Orchestra performs under the direction of E. Michael Richards in a program also featuring the UMBC Jubilee Singers under the direction of Janice Jackson.
Entitled Re-Imagining the Past; Re-Setting the Present; Re-Framing the Future, the concert will offers works by Verdi, Bartok, Schafer, and Mendelssohn:
• Overture to La forza del destino (1861–2) by Guiseppe Verdi (1813–1901), featuring guest conductor Bentley Corbett-Wilson
• Rhapsody No. 2 for Violin and Orchestra (1928) by Béla Bartók (1881–1945), featuring Haley Kirychuk, violin
• Threnody for Orchestra, Choir, Speakers and Electronic Sounds (1967) by R. Murray Schafer (b. 1933), with narrators Sophie Crossland, Chloe Schiffman, Jacob Schiffman, Oliver Crossland, and Eric Van
• Symphony No. 5 in D Major, Op. 107 (“Reformation”) (1829–30) — Felix Mendelssohn (1809–47)
