Are you interested in playing Renaissance and Baroque music in a collaborative and relaxed setting? Do you want to expand your skills by learning an early version of an instrument you already play? Do you want to learn period musical styles from primary sources? In UMBC's Collegium Musicum, you will have the opportunity to sing in a variety of vocal styles and to play on historical instruments, including recorder, crumhorn, racket, cornetto, shawm, harp, guitar, drum, chamber organ, harpsichord, and Baroque violin, viola, and cello. New this year: Viola da gambas! Gambas are particularly fun for guitarists and string players to learn, though anyone with musical experience can join us. Come get a different perspective on history through hands-on performance!
Auditions are informal - come chat with the professor and demonstrate musical proficiency on whichever instrument you feel most comfortable. Non-majors welcome! Email Dr. Lindsay Johnson at lmjohnson@umbc.edu to set up an audition time.
