The scholarship seeks to honor the memory of David W. Smith, an extraordinary singer and a brilliant and dedicated professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. In his short time on earth, David touched so many lives and inspired so many people, students and colleagues alike. It is the mission of this foundation to create a living legacy of the artistry and humanity David possessed so his spirit can continue to be a powerful force in the UMBC community.
To be eligible, applicants must be a Music Major with a concentration in Vocal Performance entering the second semester of their freshman year OR second semester at UMBC after transferring. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of talent followed closely by need and is available for a maximum of two (2) years pending a review after the first year receiving it. Students who have already been awarded full scholarships are not eligible to apply. A recommendation from the student’s major teacher will be needed for the application.
