A new feature has just been rolled out in myUMBC that makes it easier for Group Admins to create more accessible content. This feature focuses specifically on improving image accessibility through better alt text implementation.
What's New for Group Admins?
When creating or editing Posts and Events in your Group, you'll now notice:
- Visual indicators highlighting images that are missing alt text
- A new hover button that allows you to quickly Add/Edit alt text for any image
We've also added a new informational box that appears below the title of Posts and Events when accessibility issues are detected.
This informational box:
- Is only visible to people who can edit the content (generally the other admins of your group)
- Currently focuses on missing image alt text
- Will be expanded in the future to include additional accessibility checks
Alt text is essential for making images accessible to users who rely on screen readers or cannot view images. By making it easier to identify and fix missing alt text, we're helping ensure that myUMBC content is accessible to our entire campus community.
