Pakistani Student Association or PakSA of UMBC was co-founded by Yahya Zia and Esmat Lakhani in the fall of 2008. Yahya became the first president of PakSA and Esmat its first secretary. PakSA represents Pakistan’s nation and culture in the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. The main purpose of the club is to familiarize others about the nation of Pakistan and its colorful culture. The club enlightens the four provinces of Pakistan; Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhaw. It brings forth the exquisite taste of Pakistani food and culture. The purpose of PakSA is to provide a positive exposure to the culture and traditions of Pakistan. We believe that through the interactions of PakSA with our scholastic community, we can assimilate the best qualities that are nested within Pakistan. We believe the diffusion of different cultures enriches all of our lives, and for this purpose, PakSA will attempt to provide a positive exposure to the lifestyles of the people of Pakistan, both native and abroad.
PakSA’s main events include: Bhangra Blackout, Eid formal, and Jashn-E-Bahara. Other minor events will take place accordingly to its cultural and religious aspect.
