TITLE: Quantum dynamics in the fast lane: harnessing nonlinearities and chaos for quantum information and control
ABSTRACT: Nonlinear quantum dynamics provide a framework for exploring information-processing capabilities that extend beyond conventional linear quantum systems. This proposal investigates the dynamics, control, energetic costs, and information-processing properties of nonlinear and chaotic quantum systems, with an emphasis on effective nonlinear qubits. Building on preliminary work demonstrating trajectory-based chaos on the Bloch sphere, we will examine whether nonlinear and chaotic dynamics can enhance state reachability, control, sensing, measurement, and information processing, as well as their behavior under dissipation and interactions between multiple qubits. We will also characterize relaxation and critical dynamics in nonlinear systems to better understand the physical regimes in which these effects emerge. These projects aim to determine whether nonlinear and chaotic dynamics can provide useful resources for quantum technologies and identify the physical costs and limitations associated with these potential advantages.
