TITLE: Radiative Properties of Oceanic particles
ABSTRACT: The single and multiple scattering properties of hydrosols both play an important role in ocean optics. In this proposal, the single scattering properties of randomly oriented ellipsoidal shaped hydrosols have been studied. In future, directionally oriented hydrosols will also be researched with shapes ranging from ellipsoid, cylinder and irregular shaped particles. As part of the preliminary work on the multiple scattering of oceanic particles, the equivalence of internal and external mixture schemes of single scattering properties in vector radiative transfer has been established. In addition, the knowledge of radiative transfer is established by replicating the work of M. Chami (2007), which shows the importance of the polarization in the retrieval of oceanic constituents from the remote sensing reflectance. Future work would include, building a semianalytical model for ocean polarized reflectance, which is valid for different solar zenith angles, bottom depths, bottom albedo, and refractive index. The effect of vertical distribution of IOPs in water column and the wind speed on the water leaving radiance would also be studied.
