Erick Shepard, a senior undergraduate student, just finished a successful summer internship at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. Working with NASA scientist Dr. Hongbin Yu and physics professor Dr. Zhibo Zhang, Erick used a new lidar system onboard the International Space Station to study the transport of smoke and dust from mid-latitude to the polar region. His research will help us understand how anthropogenic aerosols contaminate the snow and ice in the polar regions and thereby affect our climate.
