Incident: Burglary, Theft
Locations: Retriever Activities Center (RAC), Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena, & Albin O. Kuhn Library
Date/time: November 11 – December 6, 2021
A series of burglaries and thefts were recently reported to UMBC Police. The reported burglaries and thefts occurred in staff offices between November 11 and December 6, 2021. Affected spaces include the RAC, the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena, and the Library. The victims reported that an unknown actor entered their offices and removed cash related to university activities.

While perpetrators are responsible for criminal behavior,given the number of incidents reported, we wish to remind our community about procedures for handling cash and safety tips that can reduce vulnerability.
If handling money, follow department cash handling procedures and theCritical Control Points Checklist. Deposits must be made by the next business day to maintain low levels of cash.
Lock office doors and windows when leaving the office, even for short periods of time. Report inoperable locks and latches to the appropriate maintenance personnel. Do not leave notes on your door indicating you are out of the office.
Take valuables with you if you leave for an extended period of time or secure in a safe. Regularly change the combination of safes.
Do not loan out your key or ID. If you lose your key or ID, report it immediately so locks can be changed, and your lost ID can be suspended and a new one issued. If you observe suspicious activity or behavior, contact the police immediately by calling 410-455-5555.
