The UMBC Police Department issues Crime Alerts to protect members of the University community, to promote safety, and to help reduce vulnerability.
In accordance with the Clery Act, electric scooters and electric bicycles are classified as motor vehicles.
Reported Incident: Motor Vehicle Theft
Location: Retriever Activities Center (RAC) & The Commons
Reported Date/Time: February 27, 2024, 7:00 p.m. & March 1, 2024, 8:00 a.m.
Incident Description: On 2/27/2024, an e-scooter was stolen from a bicycle rack outside of the RAC between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
On 2/29/2024, an e-bike was stolen from outside of The Commons between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Safety Tips
Victims are not to blame. Perpetrators are responsible for criminal behavior. The following safety tips may reduce vulnerability:
- Stay alert and attuned to people are circumstances around you. Report suspicious activity to UMBC Police immediately.
- Lock e-scooters and e-bikes to a bicycle rack with a high quality U-lock.
- Remove the battery if possible.
- Register your e-bike or e-scooter with Parking Services.
- Call UMBC Police at 410-455-5555 to request a safety escort if you feel unsafe walking on or near campus.
- Students in need of support can contact Retriever Integrated Health.
- Faculty and staff can access support through the Employee Assistance Program.
- Community members may report sexual misconduct, discrimination, and bias by completing the Office of Equity and Civil Rights Confidential Online Reporting Form.
