New freshman and transfer student seminars
Get all the inside information on success at UMBC
Are you a new first or second semester freshman or transfer student? Do you wish you had some way to get more inside knowledge about UMBC and how to be successful as an undergraduate? We have two great opportunities for you, one specifically for freshmen students and one for specifically transfer students! Please see below for details.
Freshmen: We would like to highly recommend those of you who are new, incoming freshmen to consider enrolling in our First-Year Experience (FYE101) seminar for the fall semester. We have two social sciences sections available for you to pick from. This 2-credit course will help you immensely with your transition to UMBC while introducing you to faculty, staff, and fellow new students. Option one meets on Wednesdays from 4-5:15 PM (Section 45, Course Number 7675) and option two meets on Fridays from 1-2:15 PM (Section 44, Course Number 7674). You do not need permission to enroll, you can simply add one of these sections to your fall schedule. Contact information if you need assistance can be found below.
Transfers: We would like to highly recommend those of you who are new, incoming transfers to consider enrolling in our Transfer Seminar (TRS201) in Public Health for the fall semester. This 1-credit course will help you immensely with your transition to UMBC while introducing you to faculty, staff, and fellow new students. This course meets on Thursdays from 4-5:15 PM and is co-taught by Transfer Advisor, Desiree Sterling, and Transfer Academic Advocate, Hope Weisman. You do not need permission to enroll, you can simply add this course to your fall schedule. Contact information if you need assistance can be found below.
Both of the above courses will focus on topics like academic planning, campus resource exploration, applied learning, professional development, and much more!
