Docker and Containerization Meeting
"Whale whale whale, what's this?" ~ Henry Budris, KotD
Friday, March 4, 2022 · 5 - 7 PM
Time is a circle.
A year and a half is probably long enough, right? It's time to talk about Docker and containerization again!
Containerization is the packaging of software code with just the operating system (OS) libraries and dependencies required to run the code to create a single lightweight executable—called a container—that runs consistently on any infrastructure. ~ IBM
In modern-day software deployment and development, containerization is pretty ubiquitous. Even as a hobbyist, Docker can make spinning up services and developing apps much smoother, and other container technologies (like LXC) offer what is effectively a lightweight, flexible VM alternative.
We'll try to have a bit of a workshop component again. Bring your laptops!
This is a hybrid meeting. We will meet in person in ILSB 230 (masks will still be required, at least for this meeting), and it will be streamed on Jitsi starting at 5PM.
