Proxmox, VPNs, and the Greenbank Server
AKA: Get everyone on the VPN, part II
Friday, September 17, 2021 · 4 - 6 PM
Hi all,
SAD veterans will probably recognize this meeting title. It's our annual VPN-a-palooza. We'll be setting up all your computers to connect to the Greenbank server, and showing you all how to make use of it, workshop-style.
Obviously, you may be wondering what the Greenbank server is. It's our club's shared lab environment, running an OS called Proxmox. Within it, any member with a SAD account (that's you) can create VMs (Virtual Machines) and containers, set up services, fiddle with networking, and so on. Think of it in some ways as a miniature self-hosted "cloud". We'll explain it in full detail at the meeting, but if you're extra eager to read ahead, there's some notes here. If you want to get a head start, install an OpenVPN client.
Meeting participation is, of course, not required, but is definitely encouraged! Please bring your laptops!
The meeting will once again be hybrid, meaning you can either attend in-person or virtually. If you're comfortable with
in-person, come to ILSB237 at 4PM. If you prefer to meet virtually, join the Jitsi room at 4PM: https://meet.jit.si/SADClubFall2021Hybrid
Hope to see you all there!
