SAD-LUG Joint Meeting: NextCloud
AKA: Alex from Linux Users Group talks about NextCloud!
Friday, November 19, 2021 · 3:30 - 4:30 PM
Hi all,
Together at last - the SAD Club and the UMBC Linux Users Group (LUG) finally join forces to create one giant combined mega-nerd.
Actually, the topic of this meeting will be Nextcloud, presented by Alex, the LUG vice president. Remember our talk at HackUMBC regarding self-hosting? Nextcloud is one of the more popular services to self-host. It's a software suite, and its main functionality is file hosting - think of it as a private, customizable, free and open-source Google Drive or Box alternative. It also has a vast offering of other features, including calendars, contacts, photo galleries, document viewing, etc. Alex will explain it in much better detail and guide you through how to set it up - including some neat modern approaches you can use to make the setup very easy.
Due to the timing of LUG's meetings, we'll be overlapping; that is, this meeting will start a bit early, at 3:30 PM. The first 30 minutes will probably be more-or-less casual discussion, so if you can't make it, don't worry, showing up at 4PM is fine (or at any time you want). The "presentation" will begin around 4PM. We'll probably end off the meeting around 5:30. There is no specific workshop section planned, but feel free to bring your laptops.
The meeting will, as always, be hybrid, meaning you can either attend in-person or virtually. If you're comfortable with
in-person, come to ILSB237 at 3:30 PM or 4:00 PM. If you prefer to meet virtually, join the Jitsi room at 4PM: https://meet.jit.si/SADClubFall2021Hybrid
If you have any questions at all, feel free to put a message in the Discord or email nbura1@umbc.edu. Hope to see you all there!
