Hi all,
For this meeting, UMBC alum "noodle" will be giving a talk - and a short workshop - on code golf. Code golf is the sport and art of implementing a given algorithm or achieving some goal with the shortest amount of source code. Bring your laptops!
For example, a prime-number test can be implemented using the following Java code: class P{public static void main(String[]a){int i=2,n=Short.valueOf(a[0]);for(;i<n;)n=n%i++<1?0:n;System.out.print(n>1);}} Code golf often branches off into wild and weird territories, featuring obscure and esoteric languages (sometimes languages designed specifically for code golfing), or unexpected creative use of mainstream languages.
To continue the topic of fun coding exercises, towards the end of the meeting, we'll introduce this year's Advent of Code, and create the annual SAD team.
ATTN: SPECIAL COVID POLICIES IN EFFECT AT THIS MEETING
We're sure you have all received the emails from the Provost and Reslife regarding increased COVID cases on campus. For now, we will continue our meetings, but with additional social distancing: maximum one student per table, with the exception of roommates. If required, we will move to the larger room next door (to the left). If you feel sick at all, or you may have recently interacted with someone with COVID, we highly encourage you to attend online via Jitsi (see below).

The meeting will, as always, be hybrid, meaning you can either attend in-person or virtually. If you're comfortable with
in-person and do not have any symptoms or recent contact with a sick person, come to ILSB237 at 4:00 PM. If you prefer to meet virtually, join the Jitsi room at 4PM: https://meet.jit.si/SADClubFall2021Hybrid
If you have any questions at all, feel free to put a message in the Discord or email nbura1@umbc.edu. Hope to see you all there!
