Aimee Murphy, executive director of Rehumanize International (also known as Life Matters Journal), will be discussing the scientific, ethical, and practical need for consistency in human rights advocacy, how this consistency in respect for human rights necessitates a philosophy of non-violence and ethic of encounter towards the human family, and how this perspective successfully eschews the modern political paradigm to draw connections between life issues and flout the "culture wars."
Often human rights get polarized against each other due to our disparate political climate: pro-lifers seem to support unjust war practices, but the anti-war crowd supports abortion. But how does valuing each and every human being in their unique selfhood change how we view human rights and the right to life? This talk and discussion will explore the basics of Personalism, how this underlying ethic affects our perspective on politics, and how we put this ethical theory into practice in our day-to-day lives.
