SAT., 12/3-The Greater Baltimore Urban League comes to UMBC!
UMBC students volunteers needed for lunchtime support!
Saturday, December 3, 2016 · 8 AM - 3 PM
The Greater Baltimore Urban League's Saturday Leadership Program (SLP) serves 8-12th grade students from underserved communities throughout Baltimore. Now in its 4th year, the program takes place at local colleges and universities to introduce students to these institutions of higher education. The group recently visited Goucher College. SLP participants have opportunities to build upon their strengths and passions. Despite certain personal challenges, they will learn that a degree is attainable and important on a path to success.
NEXT Saturday, December 3rd, 2016, approximately 80 students (8th-12th graders) will visit UMBC. The theme is “Importance of Self Care as a Leader: Emotional Well being." This visit is co-sponsored by the Meyerhoff Scholars Program, UMBC’s Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation, and The Shriver Center.
SLP has their own curriculum throughout the day. I am seeking 25 UMBC students who will be a part of lunch at True Grit’s (11:15am-12:30 pm). UMBC students will help SLP participants navigate True Grit's, reflect upon on the day's theme of emotional well being, and/or learn more about respective college experiences. Guided questions will be available. UMBC alum Stephanie C. Hill, Lockheed Martin, is speaking to the group in the afternoon. TO VOLUNTEER, please sign up at https://www.volunteersignup.org/BA4D7. If you have any questions about the day, contact Lori Hardesty at email@example.com.
