UMBC has some deep history in the creation of CCMA's signature Service-Learning & Civic Engagement (SLCE) event. In 2008, with support from the Baltimore Collegetown Network and former Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education Diane Lee, The Shriver Living Learning Community planned and hosted "Solutions through Service" - check out the attached "memorabilia"). This event has travelled to different campuses throughout the Maryland-DC-Virginia region. In 2013, it returned to UMBC when we hosted"Getting Real About Civic Engagement." Over the years, numerous UMBC students, staff, and faculty have led presentations and/or been recognized through a variety of awards. Learn more by visiting "History" on the CCMA website.
This year, The Shriver Center's Applied Learning & Community Engagement Team will receive the 2019 CCMA Civic Engagement Award. Several Shriver Living Learning Community (LLC) Peer Mentors are presenting a session (10:30-11:30am).
Because of our campus membership, student registration is only $10, while faculty, staff, and community partner registration is only $25. This covers breakfast, lunch, and other conference materials.
