Engineer's Week- Let's Get Techy- Volunteers Needed!
Kids, Rube Goldberg Machines, Lunch, Tour, and Panel
Thursday, February 26, 2015 · 10 AM - 3 PM
What SWE is doing: We will be helping groups of kids build a Rube Goldberg machine out of everyday objects such as rulers, tape, string, index cards and balloons. An awesome and super intricate example is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIGyVa5Xftw.
Sign up for a time slot (or a few) here: https://docs.google.com/a/umbc.edu/spreadsheets/d/1Qqc4Epaz5Xa-O5inizhHqr0HxI2XKP-XfiDCx8cFw5Q/edit?usp=sharing or click "visit website" at the bottom of the page. Also, please don't forget to add your email when you sign up to volunteer so that I can email out instructions and other useful information at a time closer to the event date.
"The event will take place from
10am-3pm on Thursday 2/26/15 in the Engineering Building. 120 total students
will be attending from KIPP Ujima Village Academy. Each student organization
group will be responsible for 30 students for 30 minutes, 20-25 minutes for the
activity and 5-10 minutes for the explanation and transition to the next
activity. Lunch will take place at True Grits Dining hall. Following lunch, the
group will split in half. One group will attend student panel in the Harbor
Hall Multipurpose room and the other group will walk around to take a tour of
the university."
Want to do more? If you want to stay with the kids and some other volunteers and student orgs for lunch, they will be at True Grits from 12:15 to 1:15. If you are interested in speaking or leading a tour, they run from 1:30-2:00 and 2:00-2:30. Please email abrow1@umbc.edu with the subject header "Let's Get Techy Panel Speaker" or "Let's Get Techy Tour Guide".
