ANNOUNCEMENT: New Task Forces!
Join a task force to help SWSA work towards specific goals.
Hello members of the Social Work Student Association (SWSA)!
This year, we are introducing Task Forces for SWSA! These task forces will consist of small groups of members working together to help the club achieve a specific short-term or long-term goal. They will be open to all club members, regardless of major, academic year, or status on SWSA's elected board.
Serving on a task force for SWSA is a great resume builder and a great way for students to practice leadership, teamwork, event planning, and strategies for group goal achievement. We encourage any and all member input and collaboration on helping SWSA reach its goals on campus and in our broader community.
To start, we are introducing three task forces:
- Voting Task Force: short-term until Maryland's General Election on November 3rd, work with SWSA to table in the Commons Breezeway and/or Commons Information Desk to answer student questions about the upcoming election AND/OR help SWSA produce infographics on voting awareness, what to expect for the general election ballot, how people can find their polling station ect. (no prior experience required, we will work with you and help you understand the upcoming election too!)
- Fundraising Task Force: long-term, generally help plan and participate in fundraising events like bake sales or donation drives in preparation of upcoming service events like Valentine's Day Cards for the Aging and Birthday Kits for Children in Foster Care.
- Sustainability Task Force: long-term, help plan and brainstorm ways SWSA can work towards becoming a certified Green Retriever Group on campus, how we can make our on-campus events more sustainable and produce less waste, how we can plan future events that promote environmental justice.
If you are interested in any of these task forces (or contributing your ideas for other task forces!), please fill out this Task Force Interest Form: https://forms.gle/JNa4o6RjcbFadmm18
You can expect to be put in an email and/or text thread with other members of the task force you indicate interest in to help partipate in brainstorming and planning together! Any potential meetings or events for the task force will be shared in these group chats.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to SWSA's current president, Olivia Gazaway at oliviag3@umbc.edu
