The world is a diverse place and peoples across the planet are more interconnected than ever before. UMBC has 90+ countries represented by the undergraduate population roaming our campus. Add to that the number of additional countries reflected in our faculty and graduate student populations. Each of these countries has its own unique culture and customs; each which informs the way people communicate.
In this introductory-level session, UMBC’s Diane Zeenny Ghorayeb will explore:
- The definition of intercultural communication and identify the benefits of intercultural communication skills.
- Identify what can hinder intercultural communication.
- Identify some cultural values and ways of communicating in different cultures
- Plan and implement strategies to improve intercultural communication skills.
