Did you know . . . ?
- Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the single strongest predictor of performance.
- 90% of top performers score high on emotional intelligence.
- A UC Berkeley study found that emotional intelligence was 400% more powerful than IQ when predicting who would have success in their field.
When it comes to defining intelligence, we typically think in terms of IQ or “intelligence quotient.” A few decades ago, however, a new definition of intelligence began to take shape that had nothing to do with conventional notions of intellect. Emotional intelligence, or EQ, refers to our capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others, for motivating ourselves, and for managing emotions well in ourselves and others. Furthermore, research suggests that EQ is actually more important than IQ for success in jobs at all levels.
In this program, you’ll learn about the four critical dimensions of EQ – self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management – and how these competencies drive our behavior and impact our outcomes:
- Self-awareness is the foundation for the other three competencies. If we are unable to recognize our own emotions, it will be virtually impossible to manage them (let alone the emotions of others).
- Self-management, or impulse control, flows from a base of self-awareness. A leader cannot hope to manage emotions in others without first possessing the ability to manage their own.
- Social awareness, the third domain of emotional intelligence, is the ability to empathize. Empathy, the sense of being “on the same wavelength” with another, is perhaps best described as an attunement to how others feel in a particular moment.
- Relationship management is the fourth and final EQ domain. Familiar leadership competencies such as influence, conflict management, and teamwork fall under this category.
In addition to familiarizing yourself with these four domains of emotional intelligence, you’ll learn ways to strengthen your own EQ to better manage stress, build fruitful relationships, and achieve superior results at work.
Attendees will learn:
- The four dimensions of EQ and how they impact your effectiveness.
- How to strengthen your ability to identify your emotional state “in the moment.”
- How to manage your emotions more skillfully under stress.
- How to become a better listener to build empathy and connection with others.
- How to recognize behaviors that foster strong, trusting relationships.
