Hello Retrievers and Valued Riders,
Beginning Thursday, May 28, 2026, through Thursday, June 11, 2026, Chesapeake Arena will be hosting several high school graduation ceremonies on campus. Due to anticipated heavy traffic, intersection closures, and roadway congestion associated with these events, UMBC Transit will be unable to serve all of our regular on-campus bus stops during graduation operations.
During graduation events, all UMBC Transit buses will utilize the Hilltop Road – Fine Arts Loop (Taxi Pickup Location 2 - East end of Hilltop Road) for ALL on-campus passenger pickup and drop-off. Please see the attached pick-up/drop-off location.
As a result of these detours and traffic restrictions, there will also be several off-campus stops that may be temporarily inaccessible or experience delays on the following routes:
- Arbutus I Affected Stops- All campus stops
- BWI MARC I Affected Stops- All campus stops
- Catonsville I Affected Stops- All campus stops
- Downtown I Affected Stops- All campus stops
- Route 40 I Affected Stops- All campus stops
- Arundel MARC I Affected Stops- All campus stops
- Paradise I Affected Stops- All campus stops, including the following off-campus stops

- 11. Westland Blvd. & Circle Dr.
- 35. Westland Blvd. & Courtney Rd.

- Riders on the Paradise route are encouraged to use Westland BLVD. & Courtney Rd. for the outbound route and Maiden Choice Ln. & Highview Ave., Maiden Choice La. & Westland Blvd., and Maiden Choice La. & Warren Tree Way for the inbound back to campus.
We strongly encourage riders to allow for additional travel time during this period.
Additionally, Campus Police have put out the following advisory message:
"Traffic around the arena will very heavy beginning at 8am and throughout the day to accommodate three high school graduations. Faculty, staff, and students are strongly encouraged to avoid entering campus from I-195, and anyone with a valid UMBC parking permit will be allowed to park in any legal space across campus."
Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we safely navigate these temporary impacts and delays to our operations. If you have any questions or require additional accommodations, please do not hesitate to contact our Transit Team at 410-455-2454 or transit@umbc.edu.
Safe Travels,
Your Transit Team ~ "Driving Student Success"
