The colonization of North America resulted in the loss of nearly half of the indigenous languages that were spoken on the continent, and those remaining today are undergoing a process of language shift. This research seeks to assess the status of two Iroquoian languages with fairly limited scholarship, Mohawk and Cherokee, as well as emphasize the role education plays in their revitalization initiatives.
