Born in Mexico, Dr. Vonhoff is a biologist interested in brain development and function. Dr. Vonhoff has been with the Department of Biological Sciences since December 2017 as part of UMBC’s pre-professoriate fellowship program and is now an assistant professor. He received his undergraduate degree from the Free University of Berlin (Germany) and Ph.D. from Arizona State University. His lab uses fruit flies as a model to study human neurological diseases. He uses active learning methods in the classroom and the research lab. His lab is known for celebrating diversity, and for balancing scholarship with having fun. Dr. Vonhoff has mentored several undergraduate students who have presented their research at URCAD and other conferences.
