Colleagues,
Please join me in congratulating Dan Bailey who was named Lipitz Professor by Dean Casper today.
The Liptiz Fellowship is the highest honor of our college. Here are some details about this honor from the CAHSS website:
Roger C. Lipitz and the Lipitz Family Foundation have established an endowed fund at UMBC, the purpose of which “shall be to provide funds to recognize and support innovative and distinguished teaching and/or research in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
- The Lipitz Professorship is conferred annually for a term of one academic year upon a tenured faculty member in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
- The endowment has usually produced about $15,000 in spendable funds, though the sum has varied. The Lipitz Professor will have the option of how to divide the money from the endowment between a stipend and a discretionary expense account to draw upon for a variety of possible purposes (for example: travel; teaching or research materials; equipment; research assistance; sponsoring workshops or conferences; course releases, up to two, during the year). By condition of the endowment, all money must be spent within a year.
- Previous Lipitz Professors have been Professors: Carlo DiClemente, John Sturgeon, Thomas Field, James Grubb, Leslie Morgan, Raphael Falco, Linda Dusman, Devin Hagerty, Anne Rubin, Carole McCann and now .... Dan Bailey!
