Graduate Assistant Orientation

Get ready for a successful appointment by joining us for the mandatory Graduate Assistant (GA) Orientation for all new GAs.

This orientation will equip you with the key guidelines, policies, and procedures you need to know. After the overview, you'll dive into specialized 60-minute tracks tailored to your role: Research Assistants (RAs) will learn about expectation setting and communication for collaborative research and mentorship, while Teaching Assistants (TAs) will focus on maximizing their skill pedagogical skill building through open communication and use of UMBC’s CIRTL training. Both of these will make use of UMBC’s Community on Optimizing Mentoring Practices and Advancing Student Success (COMPASS) framework. These sessions aim to prepare you to shine in your assistantship, help you build valuable professional connections, and confidently step into your future at UMBC!
