¡ADELANTE LATINA! THE FIRST AFTER-SCHOOL, COLLEGE-BOUND PROGRAM IN BALTIMORE FOR LATINA GIRLS IS LOOKING FOR TUTORS.
WHERE: Notre Dame of Maryland University, 4701 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD. 21210
WHEN: On Tuesdays or Thursdays from 4:15-5:15 p.m., starting in September 2021 and continuing until early June, 2022, with Baltimore City Public School vacation breaks and a long end of year break.
GOAL: To improve English composition, reading comprehension and writing skills of promising Latina 10th to 12th graders attending Baltimore City Public Schools, and to prepare them for college.
TUTOR QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent English language skills, tutoring skills, ability to get along with teenage girls. No knowledge of Spanish is required, as English is their primary language. Tutoring sessions are one-on-one, once a week. The same tutor stays with the student for one year and, hopefully all three years, forming a mentoring relationship. On the other day, students meet as a cohort with a professional high school teacher, who generates the curriculum.
TIME COMMITMENT: Once a week, either on Tuesday or Thursday, from 4:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
