Call For Volunteers - For Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month!
We have two events planned this October to raise awareness, connect students with resources, and support survivors of gender-based harm at UMBC. Volunteers are essential to helping us put on events that run smoothly!
Please read over the event descriptions before signing up, and please note that attending volunteer training is required! This will be scheduled for the first 2 weeks in October.
After you complete the form, we will reach out with the finalized schedule of volunteers and confirm next steps.

In Her Shoes: Monday, October 19th, from 10am-3pm. UC 310 In Her Shoes is an interactive workshop that allows participants to experience the decisions and realities that intimate partner violence survivors face while trying to navigate to safety in an abusive relationship. During this workshop, participants will choose a story card, and walk from station to station, interacting with resources and making decisions that will impact the outcome of their story.
Volunteers are needed to help set up before the event, to sit at the resource stations to interact with participants going through the experience, and clean up at the end of the event.
Volunteers who want to work at the stations will need to attend a training beforehand, to be familiar with the workshop, and to practice how to "get into character" as the various resources participants will meet (police officers, hotline advocates, clergy, etc).
The Clothesline Project: Thursday, October 22nd, from 9am-4pm. Mainstreet The Clothesline Project is a display of t-shirts created by survivors at UMBC over the years. We hang t-shirts on a clothesline, so people can stop to read the messages on the shirts, pick up information about resources on campus, and learn about ways to get involved with efforts to stop gender-based harm at UMBC.
Volunteers are needed to help set up before the event, to table during the event, and to clean up at the end of the event.
Volunteers who help table will need to attend a training beforehand, to learn about the history of the project, and practice how to offer information about resources on campus and engage with people who stop to experience the display.
