Happy Monday: Behind Every Extraordinary Moment

Dear UMBC Community,

Today, I want to say thank you to our dedicated faculty and staff.

I have been thinking about all of the events that took place on campus this weekend—from the Homecoming bonfire that brought together more than a thousand students to the spectacular Spooktacular concert featuring our talented UMBC student musicians alongside young Baltimore musicians from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s OrchKids program.

It is easy to celebrate wonderful moments like these, and those that happen daily, without fully appreciating all that it takes to make them possible. Behind each one are people who plan, prepare, and coordinate, bringing our students and community together in meaningful ways.

These experiences do not just happen. You make them happen. Every day. And in doing so, you make UMBC an extraordinary place for our students and our community.

Please know how much your dedication means to me, and to the university. I am deeply grateful.

Happy Monday!

President Valerie Sheares Ashby
