Inside Out: Music from the Depths
Saturday, October 20, 2012 · 8 - 10 PM
Featuring Italian pianist Corrado
Greco, UMBC faculty E. Michael Richards (clarinet) and Christian Tremblay
(violin), and Alicia Ward (cello), this concert celebrates music that comes
from difficult places. Edison Denisov, a Russian composer whose music was
banned in the Soviet Union due to its “Western influences,” experienced
blacklisting by the Union of Soviet Composers; Linda Dusman’s music sounding
out archetypes and the collective unconscious reflects her recent studies of
Jungian psychology; and Messiaen’s iconic “Quartet for the End of Time” spoke
of hope to the world from the darkness of a World War II prisoner of war
camp.
The program will feature:
- Sonata for Solo Clarinet by Edison Denisov -- performed by E. Michael Richards, clarinet
- from Interiors (world premiere) by Linda Dusman -- performed by Corrado Greco, piano
- Quator pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time) by Olivier Messiaen -- performed by E. Michael Richards, clarinet; Chrisitan Tremblay, violin; Alicia Ward, cello; Corrado Greco, piano
