UMBC English Alumnus Andrew Holter to Deliver 2026 Mencken Day Memorial Lecture

This Saturday, UMBC alumnus Andrew Holter ('12, English B.A. & '17, History M.A.) will deliver the 2026 Mencken Day Memorial Lecture at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore. Holter recently completed a PhD in History at Northwestern University and edited the collection Going Around: Selected Journalism by Murray Kempton (Seven Stories Press, 2025). The lecture will begin at 2:00 PM.
Holter's writing on history, literature, and art has appeared in The Baffler, Boston Review, The Guardian, The Nation, The Progressive, Rolling Stone, The Times Literary Supplement, and other publications. He is a former contributor to Baltimore City Paper, and his archival research has been featured in projects including the documentary Rat Film (20160, directed by Theo Anthony, and the exhibition Unscripted Moments: The Life and Photography of Joseph Kohl (2017), at the Maryland Center for History and Culture.
