Dear Colleagues,
As we approach midterm, it is timely to reflect on whether any small change in the structure and facilitation of class discussion may help us engage students in the kinds of conversations that will help them solidify their understanding, consider new perspectives, and think critically about ideas. The FDC recently hosted a program entitled Revitalizing Class Discussion during which two faculty panelists and attendees shared strategies for stimulating productive discussions and heading off common pitfalls. Several attendees described the session as energizing as attendees left with takeaways to try in their classes. In addition to the WebEx recording, we've captured highlights and key points from those shared at the session in the latest tipsheet in our Faculty to Faculty series.
