Welcome to our Weekly Study Tip post! This week, we're talking all about checking grades. Some of you may be avoiding thinking about it, but by checking in with yourself for every course, you should find that anxiety decreases and you feel more confident going into the last push of the semester.
We've put together a YouTube video with how to use our accompanying spreadsheet! Please note that if you click the hyperlink for the spreadsheet, it will trigger an automatic download. This spreadsheet requires your browser to have the use of Microsoft Excel.
1. Check your Syllabi
Your professors will have outlined the grade breakdown for each class in their syllabus. Make sure to reference this and write down everything you'll be graded on so that you can fill out the spreadsheet accurately!
2. Fill in the Spreadsheet's Categories
Take these percentages and edit the spreadsheet accordingly for each class - just make sure you are careful to accurately use the percentage symbol!
3. Enter your Current Grades
You can enter a different grade for each assignment/test/discussion meeting on each line, or if Blackboard gives you an average, you can just enter the average one time.
Note: fill in the spreadsheet as a fraction (i.e. 3/5) or a decimal (i.e. .89 for 89%), otherwise your grade will be incredibly skewed. If you received 100% on something, you can just put 1.
4. Enter Hypotheticals if you Want
It's likely that there will be some categories left blank. If you want to know what your final grade will be if you get different grades on the final exam (or any final upcoming tests/quizzes/assignments, etc.), you can enter hypothetical grades for those columns or assignments to see how much the final grade will change!
Note: you will not have an accurate final grade until all columns are filled out. Your 'percentage of total possible points' is your current grade in the class!
If you have questions, ask your professor!
