Day 2: Unleashing Interactive Experiences Using CourseArc
A hands-on workshop building interactive content
Do you find certain concepts or topics in your course leaving your students struggling, with a lack of appropriate content to address these challenges? Have you ever wished to create your own customized interactive learning materials for when you need to hold an asynchronous class but never found the time?
Join our 2-day workshop, Unleashing Interactive Experiences Using CourseArc, to equip yourself with the fundamentals of creating customized course content and learning materials right within your Blackboard course that complement your instruction and existing course resources. These hands-on sessions will empower you to bridge the gaps and ensure your students have the support they need to succeed. Experience with CourseArc is not a prerequisite for participating in this workshop. Whether you are completely new to CourseArc or have heard about it but never had the opportunity to explore further, this is your chance to put on your Instructional Designer hat and delve into the realm of designing customized learning materials for your students.
What is CourseArc? CourseArc is a digital content creation tool that encourages the design of interactive, accessible, and engaging online content. CourseArc is available to UMBC faculty for the ability to integrate captivating course content into Blackboard.
In this two-day workshop (50 min each), you will identify a challenge or concept in your course that students struggle with or an area of the course that could be strengthened with interactive learning content, and then harness the power of CourseArc to design a compelling and interactive learning module ready to use for this upcoming term. This will be a targeted approach, focusing on one small topic or concept that could benefit from a customized learning experience to better support students (we’re not designing/developing an entire course).
To make the most out of this workshop and ensure a comprehensive learning experience, we strongly recommend that participants attend both sessions as they are designed to be in succession.
Day 1: Monday August 14th 2:00PM ET 50 Min
You will discuss the goals of CourseArc content and enter into the content planning phase. You'll learn how to organize the CourseArc module's structure, and identify and outline the interactive elements you'll incorporate to make the material engaging and effective.
Day 1 Learning Objectives:
- Plan and structure a cohesive interactive learning module aligned with learning objectives
- Create a CourseArc module and pages to link in a Blackboard course shell
Day 2: Wednesday August 16th 2:00PM ET 50 Min
You will continue the building process by incorporating interactive elements for formative and summative assessment to align with learning objectives. You'll learn how to seamlessly integrate multimedia elements, such as videos, interactive quizzes, drag-and-drop exercises, and multimedia presentations, to enrich your module and cater to diverse learning preferences. Additionally, we'll explore the accessibility features of CourseArc, ensuring your content is inclusive and accessible to all students.
Day 2 Learning Objectives:
- Apply accessibility best practices to ensure inclusivity in the learning material
- Incorporate formative and summative interactive tools and assessments
- Develop an interactive and accessible CourseArc module for students
