Connecting People, Strengthening Communities: Meet the UMBC Community Volunteers by the Sherman and Shrivers Center!
Welcome to our September 2026 update!
UMBC staff, faculty, alumni, and community members, we're excited to introduce an opportunity created with you in mind!
Earlier this year, a collaboration between the Sherman and Shriver Centers and Community Leadership graduate student Merab Victoria Akinyi grew from a capstone project into the UMBC Community Volunteers by the Sherman and Shriver Centers (UCVSS). UCVSS is a volunteer engagement initiative connecting UMBC staff, faculty, alumni, and community members with meaningful service opportunities through trusted community partners across Baltimore.
This September, we're celebrating 12 volunteers, our growing partnership with Thread, and a community centered on service, relationships, and shared experiences.
