Faculty Workshop - Pedagogical Approaches to Allyship
In conjunction with our 11th annual Korenman Lecture
The Department of Gender and Women’s Studies is happy to announce that Deepa Iyer, South Asian American Activist, and our 2018 Korenman Lecture speaker, will be giving a workshop for faculty during her campus visit this March!
The workshop will run from 3 – 4:15pm in Fine Arts 011.
Iyer will explore how the academic community, student leaders, and diversity and inclusion staff can create welcoming and equitable spaces on campus especially as our racial landscape changes. The workshop will be an opportunity to understand basic concepts and strategies that are rooted in an anti-racism approach, with an emphasis on countering Islamophobia, using race-plus analyses, and implementing best pedagogical practices to encourage allyship and solidarity.
Co-Sponsored by: the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Office of the Provost, the Dresher Center for the Humanities, the Women’s Center and the Departments of: Africana Studies, American Studies, Asian Studies, Global Studies, Media and Communication Studies, and Modern Languages and Linguistics and Intercultural Communication.
