Shirin Parsa '20, Biological Sciences and member of the Honors College, has been named our university's Researcher of the Week!
Shirin spent the summer at the University of Virginia's Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP) studying the effects of sleep hormones on the growth of cancer cells and their response to chemotherapeutic drugs. Her mentor was Dr. Daniel Gioeli of UVA's Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology.
In November, Shirin will travel to Indianapolis to present her research at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS), an experience funded through a UMBC Travel Grant. She'll also be among the presenters at URCAD this semester.
