Year-end leave processing for 2021 is complete. Leave eligible employees should be informed of the following:
2022 Personal Leave. Personal leave hours for calendar year 2022 are available for use. Unused personal leave hours from 2021 have been forfeited and deducted from the current balance. Late time sheets from 2021 reflecting personal leave usage will be deducted from the 2022 balance which will require a manual adjustment.
Annual Leave. Annual leave hours in excess of 480 hours (pro-rated for part-time employees) have been forfeited. Late time sheets from 2021 reflecting annual leave usage will be deducted from the 2022 balance which will require a manual adjustment.
Manual Leave Adjustments. Employees should work with their departmental payroll preparer to review leave discrepancies. Requests for leave adjustments are to be submitted in writing, with supporting documentation, by the payroll preparer to my attention. Currently, requests must reflect leave balance(s) as of the end of pay period 2022-15 (ending 1/15/2022)
Annual Leave Payout. Upon separation from the University, annual leave payout is limited to unused hours carried over from the prior year, up to 400 hours (pro-rated for part-time employees), plus accruals earned during the current year. Employees are not eligible to be paid for the excess hours (in excess of 400) carried over from 2021 into 2022.
Example: An employee had 510 unused annual hours at the end of 2021. They carried over 480 hours into 2021. However, they are resigning from UMBC service on February 1, 2022. The annual leave payout is to be based on 400 hours plus accruals earned from January, 2022 until the date of separation, minus leave used. The payout does not include the excess hours carried over from the prior year.
2022 Year-End Leave. The last day to use excess annual leave and unused personal leave for calendar year 2022 will be December 31, 2022.
Thank you.
