Censorship Leaves Us in the Dark
Illuminating the Tradition of Banning and Contesting Books
Wednesday, October 9, 2019 · 11:30 AM - 1 PM
Join Dr. Christopher Allen Varlack (Honors College and Individualized Study Program) and Jeremy Weiner (Individualized Study Program) for an exciting and informative discussion on banned books and censorship.
Each year, Banned Books Week aims at celebrating our freedom to read and to engage with the wealth of information--some considered taboo or transgressive--that diversifies our perspectives and prepares us for active citizenship in an ever-evolving world. This year, Banned Books Week encourages us to "Keep the Light On" by engaging with this material critically but also by understanding the potential ramifications of censorship in our society.
The discussion begins at noon--join us beforehand for games, prizes, and free lunch!
