Petra Janka, third year Linehan Artist Scholar majoring in Graphic Design, recently had two paintings exhibited in the Visarts gallery in Rockville, MD. We asked her about her artistic experience at UMBC and being chosen for the exhibit.
How did you find out about this opportunity?
I found this opportunity through CIRCA's social media page (Instagram).
How has your time here at UMBC supported your growth as an artist?
UMBC facilitated my artistic growth by enabling me to create works that foster community engagement and connect me with individuals who share similar interests and a passion for art. Being a member of the Linehan Artist Scholar Program means much more to me than just a fantastic opportunity to pursue my goals; the Linehan community has evolved into my artistic family.
Could you talk a little about the process behind your work The Infinity of Joy?
I had two paintings exhibited: The Infinity of Joy & The Tropical Sun. Both had the same main idea - to elicit positive emotions in anyone who saw them. They were inspired by the sun, summer, and joy. Everyone has a different vision of life. See, hear, and feel things differently. It's all about perspective and what you let come through. This is why it is so challenging and at the same time so wonderful to be an artist.
